Prognostic impact of non-adherence to follow-up cystoscopy in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC)
World Journal of Urology Sep 30, 2019
Datovo JCF, et al. - Through a retrospective study that assessed patients´ demographical features, histopathological data, recurrence, progression and cancer-specific mortality between adherent and non-adherents individuals in the first 3 years of a recommended cystoscopy protocol, researchers estimated the less investigated context of cystoscopy adherent vs non-adherent cases in the follow-up of urothelial high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). No demographic or histopathological variations were noted among the 198 included individuals, comparing cystoscopy non-adherent (n = 36) and adherent participants (n = 162). Cystoscopy non-adherence was correlated with a less number of urinary cytology. Thus, in NMIBC, non-adherence to follow-up cystoscopy was concluded to be related to more than twofold progression risk.
