Prognostic impact of non-adherence to follow-up cystoscopy in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC)
World Journal of Urology Mar 01, 2019
Datovo JCF, et al. - In this retrospective study from 2005 to 2016, researchers examined 198 patients to quantify the prognosis of cystoscopy adherent vs non-adherent subjects in the follow-up of urothelial high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). They recorded no demographic or histopathological differences among the two patient types. They also reported the rates of disease recurrence, progression and cancer-specific mortality for non-adherent and adherent patients as 15 (41.7%) vs 68 (42.2%); 12 (33.3%) vs 28 (17.9%); and 4 (11.1%) vs 19 (11.7%), respectively. A correlation was noted between cystoscopy non-adherence and an inferior number of urinary cytology with a 2.33 HR for cancer progression.
