Prognostic impact of initial treatment in surgically salvaged recurrences of early glottic cancer
The Laryngoscope Dec 23, 2018
Locatello LG, et al. - Researchers analyzed 27 subjects who had transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) and 54 cases who failed after primary radiotherapy (RT) to estimate the consequences of surgically salvaged early glottic cancer (EGC) recurrences after initial RT or TLM. They observed worse post-recurrence overall survival and disease-specific survival (DSS) in RT-failed group despite the same recurrent tumor-node-metastasis stage (rTNM) in both the groups. They also found more postoperative complications like longer mean decannulation time and nasogastric feeding tube dependence with a greater rate of second locoregional recurrences in RT failed cases.
