Prognostic impact of initial treatment in surgically salvaged recurrences of early glottic cancer
The Laryngoscope Oct 06, 2019
Locatello LG, et al. - In this investigation, researchers examined the outcomes of surgically salvaged early glottic cancer recurrences following initial radiotherapy (RT) or transoral laser microsurgery (TLM). A matched pair analysis by recurrent tumor-node-metastasis stage (rTNM) considering 27 individuals with TLM as initial treatment and 54 individuals who failed after primary RT was performed. Despite the same rTNM stage, the RT-failed group exhibited worse postrecurrence overall survival and disease-specific survival vs TLM-first group. In addition, the RT failed patients displayed more postoperative complications and a higher rate of second locoregional recurrences.
