Prognostic factors of disease-free and overall survival in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing partial hepatectomy in curative intent
Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery Oct 04, 2018
Lurje G, et al. - By analyzing 111 patients who underwent surgical resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) between 2010 and 2016, researchers evaluated predictive indications for disease-free (DFS) and overall survival (OS), and in a subgroup of 50 patients, assessed the impact of HCC recurrence. Independent association of Milan criteria, macrovascular invasion, and UICC tumor stage with DFS was noted; macrovascular invasion and MELD score were independently associated with OS. Poor oncological outcome was not linked to tumor recurrence alone, still those with recurrence had improved overall survival following repeat-surgical or interventional treatment vs patients treated with palliative or sorafenib treatment alone.
