Prognostic factors of clot resolution on follow-up computed tomography angiography and recurrence after a first acute pulmonary embolism
The Clinical Respiratory Journal May 23, 2021
Aranda C, Gonzalez P, Gagliardi L, et al. - This study was undertaken to ascertain the prognostic factors of resolution of pulmonary embolism (PE) diagnosed and monitored by computed tomography angiography (CTA) and the impact of residual pulmonary obstruction (RPO) on late complications. Researchers retrospectively examined 241 patients with PE who underwent a 12-month follow-up and CT-scan assessment at 6 months. They further examined factors related to resolution and the impact of RPO on the outcome. It was shown that resolution of PE is correlated with a lower risk of recurrent thrombosis. As per the findings, earlier initiation of treatment improves prognosis as measured by resolution on follow-up CTA.
