Prognostic factors in recurrent or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck
Head & Neck Jan 22, 2019
Mirabile A, et al. - In this clinical trial, authors assessed 327 cases to determine the prognostic factors in recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. They performed multivariable Cox analyses as well as estimated overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) curves with the Kaplan-Meier method. They noticed in the whole series, OS was significantly different between the 0-2 adverse features group and the ≥3 adverse features group (median, 14 vs 10 months), as was PFS (median, 7 vs 5 months). The Argiris model distinguished prognostic factors OS and PFS, weight loss, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOG-PS), tumor primary site, tumor differentiation, prior radiotherapy, deriving a two-group prognostic classification, and this study confirmed this model in a “field-practice” population.
