Prognostic factors in patients with soft palate squamous cell carcinoma
Head & Neck Apr 21, 2019
Schernberg A, et al. - A sum of 156 subjects with median age 58 years were analyzed to know the prognostic factors correlated with the consequence in soft palate squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) cases. Authors recorded that 71% of subjects were drinkers and 91% smokers whereas 19% had synchronous cancer. They noted chemoradiotherapy in 58 cases, radiotherapy alone in 60, surgery in 17, and induction chemotherapy in 21 patients as front-line treatment. They observed 41% and 37% of the 5-year actuarial overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), respectively. A correlation of T3-T4 vs T1-T2 stage, N2-N3 vs N0-N1 stage, and neutrophil count >7 g/L with worse OS and PFS was reported in univariate analysis. Conclusively, inflammation biomarkers were correlated with OS in candidates with soft palate SCC.
