Prognostic factors impacting survival in early stage uterine carcinosarcoma
Gynecologic Oncology Nov 14, 2018
Kurnit KC, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study of women with stage I or II uterine carcinosarcoma seen at researchers' institution between March 1990 and June 2016, the influence of clinicopathologic characteristics and adjuvant treatment on survival outcomes was assessed. Using the electronic medical record, data extraction was carried out. Clinicopathologic characteristics were compared using descriptive and comparative statistics. For survival outcomes, they conducted univariable and multivariable analyses. In patients with early stage uterine carcinosarcoma, the factors that were found to be related to worse overall survival (OS) included advancing age, stage, and the presence of a rhabdomyosarcoma component. Based on these findings, incorporation of factors aside from stage alone in new treatment algorithms was recommended.
