Prognostic factors for patients with undifferentiated high grade pleomorphic sarcoma of the spine

Lou Y, et al. - Researchers undertook a retrospective survival analysis of 44 patients who underwent surgery and adjuvant therapies for undifferentiated high grade pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS) of the spine, in order to ascertain factors related to overall survival of these patients. Observations suggest UPS as an aggressive malignant tumor that rarely originates from the spine. Enrolled 44 patients represents the largest series of UPS in the spine. As per multivariate analysis, factors adversely affecting overall survival of these patients were subtotal resection or piecemeal total resection, age more than or equal to 55 years and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group score four.
