Prognostic factors and survival of gliomatosis cerebri: A systematic review and meta-analysis
World Neurosurgery Sep 07, 2018
Georgakis MK, et al. - Via performing an individual-patient data meta-analysis on 532 gliomatosis cerebri (GC) patients, researchers investigated the outcome predictors and proper management of GC. Negative prognostic factors identified were older age, high grade, widespread CNS (central nervous system) invasion, contrast-enhanced mass, more severe symptoms and a high proliferation index. Prolonged survival was observed in association with seizure at diagnosis, IDH1 mutation and MGMT(O6-methylguanine-DNA-methyltransferase) promoter methylation. Findings suggested a beneficial effect of chemotherapy and surgical resection, when feasible, but not radiotherapy.
