Prognostic factors and long-term outcomes of eye-globe perforation: Eye injury vitrectomy study
Injury Oct 02, 2020
Feng K, Xie X, Chen HJ, et al. - Researchers conducted a case series study using a multicenter prospective cohort database with the aim to describe the long-term anatomic and visual outcomes of perforating eyes which is a kind of rare, unique and severe trauma type. They identified 50 eyes (79%) injured by sharp objects and 13 eyes (21%) injured by a missiles. Vitreoretinal surgery resulted in anatomically restoration of 22 injured eyes with final vision of more than 4/200. Based on outcomes, they suggest vitreoretinal surgery as possibly valuable for saving the injured eyes with perforation. Independent risk factors for poor long-term prognosis were PVR-C, retinectomy more than 2 times of optic disk, and macular damage.
