Prognostic accuracy of the HEART score for prediction of major adverse cardiac events in patients presenting with chest pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Academic Emergency Medicine Feb 18, 2019
Fernando SM, et al. - In view of the HEART score being proposed to help predict major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in emergency department (ED), researchers summarized all studies measuring the accuracy of the HEART score for predicting MACE in adult ED patients presenting with chest pain. They analyzed 30 studies (n = 44,202) and concluded that a HEART score above the low-risk threshold (≥4) had a 95.9% sensitivity and a 44.6% specificity for MACE. This study suggests an excellent predictive value of the HEART score for MACE (particularly mortality and myocardial infarction) in patients with chest pain. They recommend the score as the principal clinical decision instrument for risk stratification of this patient population.
