Prognosis of synchronous colorectal carcinoma compared to solitary colorectal carcinoma: A matched pair analysis
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Nov 15, 2019
He W, Zheng C, Wang Y, et al. - Via involving 252 individuals who had surgery between October 2009 and June 2013 with synchronous colorectal carcinoma (CRC) or solitary CRC, researchers compared the features and prognosis between synchronous colorectal carcinoma (CRC) and solitary CRC. According to age, gender, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, BMI, cancer grade, tumor location, and tumor stage, study participants were matched. For all patients, the median follow-up duration was 42.5 months. The occurrence of synchronous CRC was high in both older and male patients and mucinous adenocarcinoma with signet-ring cell carcinoma, tumor deposit, and polypus. After surgery, the length of hospital stay was longer for synchronous CRC than solitary CRC. There are discrepancies among synchronous CRC and solitary CRC in the clinical and pathological characteristics and the prognosis for patients with synchronous CRC was lower than those with solitary CRC.
