Prognosis of renal cell carcinoma with bone metastases: Experience from a large cancer centre
European Journal of Cancer Jan 10, 2019
Ruatta F, et al. - Prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients with bone metastases (BMs) were investigated by retrospectively analyzing data from 1,750 patients with BMs from RCC treated at Gustave Roussy between April 1992 and March 2016. Progression free survival and overall survival of patients are negatively influenced by the presence of bone metastases in RCC. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) score, numbers of BMs and radical resection are identified as the important prognostic factors for RCC patients with BMs. In the presence of solitary BM without concomitant metastases at the initial diagnosis of RCC, they recommend considering bone surgery to attain local tumor control and increase overall survival.
