Prognosis for intracerebral hemorrhage during ongoing oral anticoagulant treatment
Acta Neurologica Scandinavica Feb 21, 2019
Apostolaki-Hansson T, et al. - Using data from the Swedish Stroke Register and the Swedish Causes of Death Register between 2012 and 2016, researchers compared non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOAC)-intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH)—the most serious adverse effect of treatment with oral anticoagulants—to vitamin-K antagonists (VKA)-ICH in terms of 90-day survival and functional outcomes. At 90 days, estimated functional outcomes were compared to ICH associated with VKA and NOAC on the basis of the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) via chi-squared test. The study sample consisted of 2,483 patients (300 with NOAC-ICH and 2,183 with VKA-ICH). No significant difference in mortality and functional outcome at 90 days was noted between study arms.
