Prognosis and risk factors of patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma and postoperative recurrence of bladder cancer in central China
BMC Urology Apr 24, 2019
Wang Q, et al. - In patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinomas (UTUCs), researchers analyzed data from 439 candidates to examine prognostic risk factors for and postoperative recurrence of bladder cancer. They noted 90.0%, 76.4%, and 67.7% as the 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival rates, respectively for the UTUC patients. Smoking, taking traditional Chinese medicine with aristolochic acid, history of bladder cancer, age, tumor size, tumor stage, tumor grade, and lymph node metastasis were the factors which impacted long-term survival in UTUC cases. Advanced tumor stage, high-grade tumor, preoperative ureteroscopy, ureteral urothelial carcinoma, no postoperative bladder perfusion chemotherapy, and DM without metformin use were risk factors linked to postoperative bladder cancer recurrence. Regular postoperative bladder perfusion chemotherapy was a protective factor with regard to recurrance.
