Lupus Oct 10, 2019
El-serougy E, et al. - Sixty-nine individuals with SLE with symptoms and signs of infection validated by culture and/or a favorable response to antibiotics and 69 patients with SLE without infection were involved in order to examine the utility of serum procalcitonin (PCT) and CRP as markers of infection in individuals with SLE. A notably greater level of CRP was seen in patients with SLE with infection vs those without infection. Hence, it was concluded that while the use of CRP as a marker of infection has been validated, serum PCT could not distinguish individuals with SLE with or without bacterial infection in this study.
