Prior cervical cytology and high-risk HPV testing results for 311 patients with invasive cervical adenocarcinoma: A multicenter retrospective study from China’s largest independent operator of pathology laboratories
BMC Infectious Diseases Nov 21, 2019
Xie F, Zhang L, Zhao D, et al. - Researchers conducted a multicenter retrospective study to determine the cervical cancer screening results of a cohort of Chinese patients who were subsequently diagnosed with invasive cervical adenocarcinoma, with the aim of recognizing the optimal cervical adenocarcinoma screening method. The data of the 311 patients who had histologically confirmed primary invasive cervical adenocarcinoma from eight local pathology laboratories operated by KingMed Diagnostics, the largest independent operator of pathology laboratories in China, over a 2-year period, were retrospectively retrieved and analyzed. Of these, cytology alone was performed on 136, high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) testing alone was performed on 106, and both cytology and HR-HPV co-testing were done on 69 patients. Outcomes revealed poor screening efficiency of both cytology alone and HR-HPV testing alone, however, the incorporation of the two clearly improved the efficiency of primary cervical adenocarcinoma screening. This suggests cytology and HR-HPV co-testing as the most effective cervical adenocarcinoma screening method.
