Primary tumour resection in non-small-cell lung cancer patients with ipsilateral pleural dissemination (M1a): A population-based study
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Feb 10, 2019
Li H, et al. - Researchers investigated the effects of primary tumour resection on survival in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with ipsilateral pleural dissemination (M1a). They identified 5513 patients with ipsilateral pleural dissemination from the US National Cancer Institute Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database entries from 2010 to 2015. Of these, 309 underwent primary tumour resection. As per outcomes, the inclusion of surgery independently correlated with improved survival in all subgroups except for those with pericardial effusion or N3 disease. In the surgical cohort, significantly better overall survival (OS) was noted for patients who underwent lobe/bilobectomy than those who underwent sublobar resection.
