Primary gastrointestinal liposarcoma—A clinicopathological study of 8 cases of a rare entity
Human Pathology Mar 05, 2020
Gajzer DC, et al. - Given that primary gastrointestinal liposarcoma is uncommon, and information regarding this entity is largely based on single case studies, researchers reported on eight individuals with primary liposarcoma of the gastrointestinal tract and reviewed the pertinent literature. The cohort comprises 6 men and 2 women who ranged in age from 51 to 81 years (median 68.5). Overall, intestinal tract liposarcomas are most frequently high-grade dedifferentiated tumors that are biologically aggressive and need surgical excision with widely negative margins to help lessen the risk of local recurrence and dissemination. The malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumor is essential in the differential diagnosis. Care must be taken not to avoid misdiagnosing one entity for the other, as the correct diagnosis has important clinical consequences.
