Primary baerveldt vs trabeculectomy study after one-year follow-up
Acta Ophthalmologica Jul 25, 2018
Islamaj E, et al. - Researchers compared a Baerveldt implant and trabeculectomy with respect to intraocular pressure (IOP) and failure rate at 1 year of follow-up. Compared to Baerveldt glaucoma drainage device (BGI) better results were demonstrated by trabeculectomy (TE), one year after surgery. Findings suggested similar final IOP, IOP reduction and failure rate, but in the BGI group, the need for additional IOP lowering medication is higher as well as the complication rate. Authors suggested considering the increased risk of developing diplopia after placement of a BGI.
