Lajoie J, et al. - This study focused on preventing HIV infection without targeting the virus. They realized reducing HIV target cells at the genital tract as a new concept in HIV prevention. It uses safe and globally accessible drugs that are not associated with HIV prevention. Another advantage identified was that this approach did not target the virus; therefore, viral mutation seemed unlikely to provide escape variants. They suggested practicing caution to ensure that reducing inflammation does not increase the risk of acquiring other infections
