Prevalence, predictors and comorbidity of dry skin in the general population

Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Jul 11, 2018

Augustin M, et al. - Researchers investigated the prevalence of dry skin in the German adult population. During company-based skin screenings conducted in 343 German companies, experienced dermatologists evaluated data of 48,630 employed persons on a cross-sectional level in whole body examinations. They also evaluated age, gender, allergies, atopic diseases and the skin type next to the current dermatologic findings. They frequently detected dry skin in the adult general population and this condition deserved special attention. For axillary dermatitis, atopic eczema, exsiccation eczema, psoriasis, plantar warts, seborrheic dermatitis, and atopic disposition, dry skin was identified as a significant predictor. Patients at risk for deterioration may be more readily detected with the help of known risk factors.
