Prevalence of vitiligo among adults in the United States
JAMA Nov 22, 2021
Gandhi K, Ezzedine K, Anastassopoulos KP, et al. - The current point prevalence of vitiligo was investigated among adults in the US by performing a cross-sectional, population-based online survey study of more than 40,000 adults in the US between December 2019 and March 2020.
For diagnosed and undiagnosed vitiligo combined, the estimated point prevalence was 1.38% (self-reported) and 0.76% (clinician adjudicated) as per participant self-report, and adjudication of vitiligo by 3 dermatologists through participant submission of photographs of their skin lesions.
Overall this work involves reporting of current US population-based point prevalence estimates of all vitiligo, beyond just the diagnosed population, including estimates for undiagnosed, segmental, and nonsegmental vitiligo.
