Prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and its association with metabolic derangements among children with obesity

Adikaram SGS, et al. - Among 202 children with obesity (mean age was 10.11 years), researchers evaluated the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and its association with metabolic derangements. Vitamin D deficiency prevalence among obese children involved in this cross-sectional study was very high. Levels of vitamin D are significantly associated with insulin resistance and adiposity measures. However, there was no statistically significant association between deficiency of vitamin D with fasting blood glucose and lipid profile.
