Prevalence of the fibromyalgia phenotype in patients with spine pain presenting to a tertiary care pain clinic and the potential treatment implications
Arthritis & Rheumatism Feb 22, 2019
Brummett CM, et al. - Authors investigated 548 participants to examine the prevalence of the fibromyalgia (FM) phenotype in subjects with spine pain with the possible treatment indications. They noticed 42% of cases FM positive according to the FM criteria and severity scales. They found FM-positive subjects younger, unemployed, and obtaining compensation for pain and had higher pain severity as well as pain interference. They also noted more neuropathic pain descriptors with higher levels of depression/anxiety and a lower level of physical function among FM positive cases as compared to FM-negative patients. In multivariate analysis, female gender, neuropathic pain, pain interference, and anxiety were independently predictive of FM status.
