Prevalence of synchronous and metachronous aneurysms in women with abdominal aortic aneurysm
European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Jun 26, 2018
Wallinder J, et al. - The prevalence of synchronous or metachronous aneurysms among women with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) was estimated. Researchers also assessed if treatment could improve survival. In this retrospective study of prospectively registered patients, they identified 339 women who were operated on, or under surveillance for AAA at two Swedish hospitals. Among women with AAA, a common occurrence of thoracic aortic aneurysms was noted, most commonly affecting the descending aorta, and detection frequently results in repair. Women with AAA often exhibit popliteal and femoral aneurysms. These aneurysms were even common if there is a synchronous iliac aneurysm.
