Prevalence of suspected nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in lean adolescents in the United States
Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Jul 01, 2018
Selvakumar C, et al. - Cross sectional data from 1482 lean subjects ages between 12 and 18 years, who were selected in the National Health and Examination Survey during the 2005 to 2014 cycles were incorporated to assess the prevalence and risk factors of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in lean adolescents in the United States (US). It was observed that the estimated prevalence of suspected NAFLD among lean adolescents during 2005 to 2014 cycles in the US was 8%. In addition, low HDL, hypertriglyceridemia and insulin resistance (IR) were found to be more common among lean NAFLD subjects. Compared with non-Hispanic white lean adolescents, non-Hispanic black lean adolescents were less likely to have suspected NAFLD.
