Prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism in obese children or adolescents and association between thyroid hormone and the components of metabolic syndrome
Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health May 22, 2018
Jin HY - Using data from a subset of the KNHANES VI, a retrospective, cross-sectional study was performed to examine the prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism in children and adolescents and determine the association between lipid profiles, insulin resistance and thyroid hormones. The present data indicated that subclinical hypothyroidism was common in the obese group, and the concentrations of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) were linked with the lipid profile. Results of this study suggested that subclinical hypothyroidism in obese children or adolescents should be closely monitored while also evaluating metabolic risk factors.
