Prevalence of strongyloidiasis and schistosomiasis among migrants: A systematic review and meta-analysis
The Lancet Global Health Jan 28, 2019
Asundi A, et al. - Investigators assessed the data to estimate the prevalence of strongyloidiasis and schistosomiasis among migrants born in endemic countries. They performed stool and/or urine microscopy for larvae and/or eggs and/or serum antibodies estimation. Prevalence of pooled strongyloidiasis serum was 12·2% whereas stool-based prevalence was 1·8%. They observed migrants from East Asia and the Pacific, sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean with highest seroprevalence. They suggested decision making for screening the migrants on the basis of observed data as compared to stool testing.
