Prevalence of peri-implant disease and risk indicators in a Japanese population with at least 3 years in function. -A multicentre retrospective study

Clinical Oral Implants Research Jan 08, 2019

Wada M, et al. - Researchers analyzed 543 cases with 1613 implants to estimate the prevalence of peri-implant disease and also to assess the risk factors in Japanese individuals with ≥ 3 years of implant function. They observed probing depth, bleeding on probing (BoP), suppuration (Sup) and keratinized tissue width and calculated bone loss from intra-oral radiographs exercised after 1 year and then more than 3 years of function. They recorded 23.9% and 15.8% prevalence of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis, respectively. They observed an association of peri-implant mucositis with poor oral hygiene and less keratinized tissue. They noted the smoking, poor oral hygiene, insertion in the maxilla, and less keratinized tissue as the predominant risk factors for peri-implantitis.
