Prevalence of pancreatic cystic lesions detected by magnetic resonance imaging in the Chinese population
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology May 26, 2019
Sun L, et al. - In 10,987 people who underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), researchers evaluated the crude prevalence of pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs). Data were included from consecutive patients with MRI without pancreatic indications. For the presence of pancreatic cysts, MRI images were reviewed. In 2017, on the basis of Chinese national population data, the prevalence and demographic data were standardized to assess the crude prevalence. PCLs prevalence was 1.93%, and PCLs were discovered more frequently in women. High-risk PCLs prevalence was 0.12%. High-risk PCLs' crude prevalence was 0.07%. In the Chinese population, pancreatic cystic lesions are not rare. The prevalence of PCLs in the female population increased with age and is higher. It is important not to ignore the prevalence of high-risk PCLs.
