Prevalence of mental health disorders among adults with cerebral palsy: A cross-sectional analysis
Annals of Internal Medicine Sep 08, 2019
Whitney DG, et al. - Adults with cerebral palsy (CP) vs those without CP were examined for the prevalence of mental health disorders in this investigation. Researchers performed a cross-sectional study including 8.7 million adults (including 7,348 adults with CP) in the setting of 2016 Optum Clinformatics Data Mart. Individuals with CP alone vs those without CP had a higher age-standardized prevalence for schizophrenic disorders (2.8% vs 0.7%), mood affective disorders (19.5% vs 8.1%), anxiety disorders (19.5% vs 11.1%), disorders of adult personality and behavior (1.2% vs 0.3%), and alcohol- and opioid-related disorders (4.7% vs 3.0%). Adults with CP and neurodevelopmental disorders vs those with CP alone had a similar or higher age-standardized prevalence of six mental health disorder categories, except for the lower prevalence of alcohol- and opioid-related disorders in men.
