Prevalence of left ventricular systolic dysfunction and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction in men and women with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Cardiovascular Diabetology Apr 25, 2018
Bouthoorn S, et al. - Researchers assessed summary estimates of the incidence of left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD)/heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) and investigated whether there were any sex differences. They performed a systematic search of Medline and Embase and used random-effects meta-analysis to pool the data (17 studies, mean age 50.1 ± 6.3 to 71.5 ± 7.5). Relative to the general population, T2D patients from a hospital setting were found to have a higher summary prevalence of LVSD. In both settings, a higher prevalence was seen in men than in women. Only a single investigation evaluated the prevalence of HFrEF among T2D in the population, which was once again found to be higher among men than women.
