Urology Apr 01, 2021
Ambulkar SS, Darves-Bornoz AL, Fantus RJ, et al. - This study was attempted to ascertain the prevalence of hyperprolactinemia and prolactinoma among men presenting for initial fertility assessment. Between 1999 and 2018, researchers conducted a retrospective review of men presenting for initial fertility evaluation at a tertiary care, academic health system. Clinical characteristics of men with and without hyperprolactinemia were compared. They applied univariable and multivariable analysis to ascertain factors correlated with hyperprolactinemia. They further evaluated the impacts of hyperprolactinemia and prolactinoma on testosterone levels, semen parameters and pregnancy outcomes after treatment. The outcomes of this study demonstrated that the overall prevalence of prolactinoma in our cohort of men undergoing fertility evaluation was 35-fold higher than the prevalence in the general male population.
