Prevalence of human papillomavirus and subtype distribution in male partners of women with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN): A systematic review
BMC Infectious Diseases Mar 03, 2019
Skoulakis A, et al. - Researchers performed this systematic review to determine the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) and the distribution of subtypes in heterosexual male partners of women who were diagnosed with any grade of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). They analyzed a total of 12 publications; the largest share of these were from South America (seven studies), and the rest from Europe. Outcomes suggest a lack of precise screening or surveillance guidelines for managing partners of women with CIN. This population exhibits frequent colonization by several HPV subtypes and requires screening in an effort to reduce infection in both sexes. In the screening test, they suggest the inclusion of detection/identification of HPV subtypes by a molecular assay, followed by peniscopy only for the positive cases.
