Prevalence of high-burden medical conditions and health care resource utilization and costs among adults with cerebral palsy
Clinical Epidemiology Jun 22, 2019
Whitney DG, et al. – Via analysis of cross-sectional data obtained from a single private payer administrative claimed database of 5,555 individuals with cerebral palsy (CP), researchers ascertained the prevalence of high-burden medical conditions and healthcare resource utilization and costs among adults with CP compared with adults without CP. In comparison to adults without CP, a higher prevalence of high-burden medical conditions, healthcare resource utilization, and higher standardized reimbursement and patient out-of-pocket healthcare costs were observed in adults with CP. Hence, the demand for earlier screening strategies and preventive medical services in order to reduce the disease and economic burden attributable to adults with CP was suggested.
