Prevalence of frailty, cognitive impairment, and sarcopenia in outpatients with cardiometabolic disease in a frailty clinic
BMC Geriatrics Nov 11, 2018
Tamura Y, et al. - Among individuals treated in specialty outpatient clinics, researchers determined the prevalence and incidence of frailty and cognitive impairment (critical risk factors for disability and mortality in the general population of older inhabitants). They conducted a 3-year prospective observational study to identify risk factors for progression of frailty, sarcopenia, and cognition in a frailty clinic. Findings revealed that, among patients seen in the frailty clinic, those with cardiometabolic disease had a high prevalence of frailty, cognitive impairment, and sarcopenia. For detecting risk factors for progression of frailty and cognitive decline, a useful approach could be to perform comprehensive assessment in the high-risk patients.
