Prevalence of food addiction in children and adolescents: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
Obesity Reviews Jan 28, 2021
Yekaninejad MS, Badrooj N, Vosoughi F, et al. - Since food addiction (FA) was a construct associated with childhood obesity, but relatively little is known about the prevalence of FA among children and adolescents, researchers conducted this systematic review and meta‐analysis to synthesize the results of FA prevalence among youth. Eligible studies (N = 22) were analyzed using 6,996 candidates. Data reported that the estimated FA prevalence was 15% for all samples, 12% for community samples, and 19% for overweight/obese samples. Meta‐regression showed that weight status was correlated with FA severity and marginally with FA prevalence. Healthcare providers should consider and address the high prevalence of FA among the pediatric population.
