Prevalence of exercise‐induced bronchoconstriction and laryngeal obstruction in adolescent athletes
Pediatric Pulmonology Oct 25, 2020
Ersson K, Mallmin E, Malinovschi A, et al. - Researchers investigated adolescent athletes to determine how prevalent was exercise‐induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) and exercise‐induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) in them. This study involved 98 participants who finished an EIB test, of these, a continuous laryngoscopy exercise test was completed by 75 participants. Findings revealed a high prevalence of EIB in this cohort comprising adolescent athletes. Although the prevalence of EILO was less, it was acknowledged as a crucial differential diagnosis to EIB. For both EIB and EILO, a weak indicator was self‐reported exercise‐induced dyspnea, and standardized testing should be offered.
