Ware AL, et al. - The intent here was to identify the prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD) risk factors in children at known risk for early CAD or with severe congenital heart disease (CHD). The findings revealed that hypertension served as the most common risk factor for children at risk of early CAD and severe CHD. Metabolic syndrome appeared to be a rare occurrence. These patients warranted screening and treatment for hypertension. The available recommendations for universal lipid screening were sufficient for follow-up.
