Prevalence of comorbid major depressive disorder in type 2 diabetes: A meta-analysis of comparative and epidemiological studies
Diabetic Medicine Jul 05, 2019
Wang F, et al. - In a comprehensive meta-analysis, researchers looked at the average point prevalence of major depressive disorder and their associated factors in people with type 2 diabetes. Using a random-effects model, they identified and analyzed studies reporting the prevalence of major depressive disorder in people with type 2 diabetes. A total of 26 studies met inclusion criteria. The point prevalence of major depressive disorder was 14.5%. People with type 2 diabetes were more likely than the general population to have a major depressive disorder. According to subgroup and meta-regression analyses, study site, study type, diagnostic criteria, and age significantly moderated the prevalence of the major depressive disorder. In people with type 2 diabetes, the average point prevalence of major depressive disorder was high. For this population, routine screening and more efficient interventions should be carried out.
