Prevalence of chronic kidney disease, thrombotic cardiovascular events, and use of oral P2Y12 inhibitors among Veterans
American Journal of Nephrology Feb 07, 2018
Singh M, et al. - This study was designed to determine the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and thrombotic cardiovascular (CV) events among Veterans enrolled in the Veterans Affairs Health Care System (VA) care, and the overall prescription trend for P2Y12 inhibitors (P2Y12i). A common prevalence of CKD was reported among Veterans, although its true prevalence was likely being underestimated. Compared with non-Veteran US population, a higher prevalence of dialysis-dependent CKD was reported among Veterans. Wide co-prevalence of CV events was documented and these patients were commonly prescribed P2Y12i. Ticagrelor is recently being prescribed increasingly for this patient population and cost differences between the 3 P2Y12i were large.
