Prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in non-menopausal and postmenopausal inpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in China
BMC Endocrine Disorders Oct 17, 2019
Zhou H, et al. - In non-menopausal and postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), researchers studied the prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors and evaluate the 10-year risk of CVD. Using the Framingham Risk Score, a total of 569 patients with T2DM at a Chinese tertiary hospital were reviewed. In all patients, they assessed the 10-year risk of CVD, clinical and menopause features. Data reported that the incidence of smoking, dyslipidemia, hypertension, overweight or obesity, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease was 0.7, 36.2, 38.1 56.6 and 58.2%, respectively. Blood glucose, blood pressure, and blood lipid regulation levels were found to be extremely low and the treatment condition was not satisfactory. In addition to menopause, it has been found that LDL-C, fasting plasma glucose and time after menopause are independent risk factors for the 10-year CVD risk. Focusing on thorough regulation of multiple risk factors like plasma glucose, blood pressure and serum lipid, is therefore important.
