Prevalence of asthma and allergic disorders in regional, rural, and indigenous children aged 6–8 years in Tasmania
Journal of Asthma Sep 13, 2019
Weber HC, et al. - Using data from a cross-sectional survey in 39 primary schools across North West Tasmania, researchers assessed the prevalence of wheezing, asthma, and other allergic disorders among children residing in regional and rural Tasmania. Enrolled children were 1,075 in total and aged between 6 and 8 years. Findings revealed a greater prevalence of childhood asthma in regional Tasmania vs national estimates, particularly among indigenous children. An allergic response did not seem to be driving this. In addition, the likelihood of having undiagnosed asthma was reported in a significant proportion of children.
