Prevalence of anxiety and depressive symptoms and their association with multimorbidity and demographic factors: A community-based, cross-sectional survey in Karachi, Pakistan

Farooq S, et al. - In this observational cross-sectional study of a general population aged 30 years and above living in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal town of Karachi, Pakistan (n = 2,867), experts predicted the predominance of anxiety and depressive symptoms and their relationship with multimorbidity and the demographic features of adults aged 30 years and above in Karachi, Pakistan. Anxiety and depressive symptoms were noted in 27.4% of adults. The multivariate logistic regression model revealed that the significant factors related to anxiety and depressive symptoms were the presence of multimorbidity, female gender, illiteracy, more children and attending a faith healer. Moreover, this study showed a reasonably high prevalence of anxiety and depressive symptoms among adults aged 30 years and above in Karachi, Pakistan.
