Zaninetti C, et al. - The intent of the authors was to contemplate the prevalence of anemia in hospitalized internal medicine patients and the possible correlations of anemia with comorbidities and length of hospitalization. A high prevalence of anemia was disclosed in the study cohort, with a remarkable burden of mild forms, and of chronic inflammation's pathogenic mechanism. The pivotal role played by anemia in determining the clinical complexity of such patients was underscored by the correlations with comorbidities and duration of hospital stay.
