Prevalence of and characteristics associated with self-reported good hearing in a population with elevated audiometric thresholds

JAMA Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery Jun 12, 2019

Curti SA, et al. - Via this population-based survey study of 1373 participants, researchers sought for the percentage of persons with elevated audiometric thresholds who self-report good hearing. In addition, they investigated the associated factors. The good hearing was reported by approximately two-thirds of people who have audiometric evidence of hearing loss. Factors significantly associated with reporting good hearing were younger age, nonwhite race, and women, as well as those who reported overall good health.
