Prevalence and types of genital lesions in organ transplant recipients
JAMA Dermatology Feb 07, 2018
Nadhan KS, et al. - Herein, researchers assessed the prevalence and types of genital lesions seen in organ transplant recipients (OTRs). Findings demonstrated that although the genital lesions in OTRs were common, awareness was low. As a part of routine posttransplant skin examinations, all OTRs ought to undergo a thorough inspection of genital skin. Patients with darker skin ought to undergo a targeted program of early detection, prevention, and awareness focused on the risk of genital skin cancer after transplant as they were disproportionately affected by cutaneous genital malignant tumors. Additionally, high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) subtypes were found to be associated with genital Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in OTRs.
